ABOUT THE PATTERN

This pattern has full instructions, but also allows you to to make a Hexi cardigan or sweater with any yarn on any flat bed machine. The main instructions are for 4 ply, Double Knit and Aran weight yarns, but if you want to use a yarn that doesn't fit these gauges, or your yarn doesn't produce the tension measurements given, then I show you how to work out the instructions for your size, body shape and yarn.

The garments can be made in any size from baby to very large - if you used the whole needlebed, it would fit a giant.

The slope of the triangle determines the relative size of the bust/chest and hips, so the slope has to be accurate to give you the measurements you want. This varies with whatever yarn you wish to use, so I have formulated 21 ways to produce the slope, with instructions for finding the appropriate formula and dregree of slope that will give you the measurements you require.

The basic garment, although looking complicated, is simple enough for a relative beginner to make. The skills needed are picking up from waste yarn or a garment edge, and being competent with the use of shaping by Holding Position/Short Rowing.

The garment can be made in one colour, but by using the construction of the garment, you can produce a very striking striped effect, using as many colours as you like. Or you could have a more subtle effect by using different textures of yarn in the same or toning colour.

You can also use Fairisle patterning with a suitable design.

The garment is made in 2 sections, each consisting of 6 triangles and joined at the centre back (and front for the sweater).

Ammendments can be made to garment length, sleeve length, and sleeve shape and adjustments can be made for different chest/bust to hip ratios.

The cardigan can have a V neck or round neck, and the round neck can be converted to a sweater by joining at the front. I have also included instructions for creating a boat neck sweater.

The basic pattern uses a 'Double Worm' edging for those with no ribber, but you can of course add your own choice of edging. If you do have a ribber, you have the option to add ribbed welts, cuffs and bands. I include instructions for my mock double, triple or quadruple roll edging.

There are so many variational possibilities that you will be able to make a totally unique garment.

It's also a great way to use up leftover balls in your stash

EQUIPMENT

Can be made on any flat bed machine. A ribber is not necessary, but if you have one, you have more options for edging the garment.

SIZING

This can be made in any size, from baby size to very large. An option for those who cannot fit a normal garment on the needlebed. The hip size can be made the same, bigger or smaller than the chest/bust measurement.

MATERIALS

The basic pattern includes instructions for 4ply, DK and Aran weight yarns, but also includes info for creating your garment with any yarns that don't fit these tension measurements.
